Hello doctor. I'm a 25 year old male. I'm on steroids for the last 4 years for the treatment of nephrotic syndrome. My haemoglobin level is raising and falling now a days. Levels are 18.8, 16.5,17.4,15.5, and now 16.8. Hematologist says that it is polycythemia. He advised phlebotomy. Hct levels are almost normal to slightly high. Rbc and wbc are also normal to slightly high. Now I'm taking wysolone 60 mg daily, cilacar 5 mg, daonil, Shel D, and aspirin 75 mg. My hb levels are not steadily rising. Sometimes it rises and otherwise it falls. Can you please explain about my condition. My real biopsy shown minimal change. My question is, is this polycythemia or any rise due to wysolone side effect. Bcoz my job level rises and falls. Is polycythemia dangerous. Please provide me a satisfactory answer.

Only very rarely does polycythemia cause serious problems in babies, such as seizures due to poor circulation to the brain. Anyone who has polycythemia vera must receive treatment. Without treatment, the symptoms will become much worse and the risk of death from stroke, blood clots, or heart attack will increase.
