Hi Lybrate-user, Yes TB can be cured. The prerequisite is to take medicines regularly as adviced (daily or alternate day as per DOTS) without FAIL and long term. The duration is for minimum 6 months but can vary depending on the organ affected (bone TB and brain TB may be up to 1 year). Drug resistant TB is different. It requires treatment for 2 years and is slightly more difficult to cure. However the symptoms get better usually before treatment is completed. Yes TB can happen again once it is cured. This is called RELAPSE. Most of the relapse are said to occur within 2 years. However it can even happen later.
