Hi. In EHPVO main symptoms are variceal bleed and hemetemesis (blood in vomiting), ascites (fluid in abdomen) and jaundice can occur subsequently. Treatment is check endoscopy to rule out esophageal and gastric varices. On the basis of symptoms you may require shunt surgery or later may be a liver transplant in case cirrhosis goes bad. please consult a gastroenterologist for the same. Thanks.

Hello doctor, I am using mirtazapine from past 1 year for IBS-C. Now my course is about to stop as I am feeling good. Now I am using mirtazapine 7.5 (60 mg- 45 mg-30 mg-15 mg-7.5 mg) from last month. In 15 days I have to stop the medicine. But now I am getting constipation and severe headaches with gastric disturbances. My question is" Is it medicine withdrawn side effects or do I need to increase my dose again? Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Hello doctor,
I am using mirtazapine from past 1 year for IBS-C. Now my course is about to stop as I am feeling good....
Hi. In my opinion mirtazapine is an antidepressant. It may or may not help in IBS. I never prescribe it for IBS. Your symptoms as you told may be related to drug withdrawal. Regarding stopping the drug you should consult the doctor who advised it. For IBS I can help you with few medications and lifestyle changes. Avoid unnecessary stress and anxiety. Sleep properly, drink adequate water. Avoid spicy oily and outside food. No smoking/alcohol/tobacco etc. Eat more of green vegetables and fruits. Avoid heavy dinner. For medications you can consult me online. Thanks.

Hi. First thing is avoid prolong standing or sitting, your limbs should be elevated not hanging or in erect posture. While sleeping keep your legs elevated over a pillow. Use graded compression stockings. If its causing lot of pain, limb swelling and skin blackening/ulcer around ankle then go for surgery.

I am suffered from varicose veins, I have tried ever thing medicines, homeopathic treatment, but I am not able to cure it, so please suggest me .so that I can cure it.

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, FIAGES(Fellowship in minimal access surgery), FMAS (Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery)
General Surgeon, Ghaziabad
Hi. Varicose veins once they occur it's difficult to get rid of them with medicines. You can only prevent further deterioration and complications. If they are causing pain, increasing despite all treatment or development of ulcer over ankle and blackening of skin are indications for surgery. Surgery can get rid of varicose veins and it's complications. Now a days laser treatment is also available. Keep your limb elevated, avoid prolong standing and running. You can use graded compression stockings. No good medications are available. For further queries consult online or in person by appointment.

The reason appears to be haemorrhoids (piles). There may be a element of IBS causing mucus and bloating. But its important to rule out other cauSes of bleeding like ulcerative colitis etc. I suggest you to undergo a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy. Treatment requires strict dietary restrictions as well as medications. Stop spicy oily and outside food. Increase salad fruits and green veggie. No alcohol/tobacco etc. Drink lot of water and sleep properly. For medications you can consult online on chat.

Hi. It's a very common complain after GB removal. See it will take 2 to 3 months for body to adapt and perform regular digestion. It's just 1 week post surgery. Some element of surgical stress as well as side effect of medicines also present initially. Continue a low fat soft bland diet, continue to take antacids. He will be fine need not worry.

Hi, I am 20 year old male and I am having inguinal hernia on my right side, I have shown it to a laparoscopic surgeon, he said that it is small and still has to grow. My question is whether the pain in testicle will keep increasing till the hernia grows and then will stop when fully developed or the pain will keep increasing.

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, FIAGES(Fellowship in minimal access surgery), FMAS (Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery)
General Surgeon, Ghaziabad
Hi. It may be evolving hernia. If you are having a visible swelling which comes and goes than there is no question about small and big. It has to be operated. Pain is more when hernia is developing especially in younger age group.
