Hello, I didn't knew anything about dental procedures, I lost one teeth in my anterior region, then dentist suggested bridge, my two teeth used for bridge were completely healthy and fine, but still he did root canal on those. I did as he suggested. Now when I am reading on internet and some other places, they are saying root canal should not have been done if abutmentts were healthy. Now I am worried about my teeth. Will the lifetime of those teeth due to rct decrease? Or would it cause me any problem? I am worried lot about it. Please guide.

No .don't worry at al as abutment needs to be reduced first before fabrication of a bridge .the doctor sujjested and did root canal on the abutment teeth because he was quite sure that while reducing or even sometimes later you could have problems with the abutment teeth .so he wisely sujjested and performed the root canal which wud be needed. Many times root canals are performed on abutment teeth depending upon several factors or even those factors which can problem you in future. So it's quite good now and at least now you won't have any problem in the near future if the root canal is done properly. So trust your doctor and please don't rely much on information provided on google or youtube. Most of the times they misguide people. So good luck and stay healthy. U r in a right hand.

Hello first stop panicking and stop worrying. Remember to replace any single tooth there are three options- option 1. If you want fixed teeth then - topmost is implant placement. Adv of implant -fixed -last for many years -bone remains the same even after 10 years. (slight change maybe) -soft tissue remains the same even after 10 years. -there is no need to cut the adjacent healthy tooth. Dis adv of implant -time taking procedure takes more than 3-4 months, sometimes even more than that. -technique sensitive procedure. -expensive, will cost from 10000/15000/20000/25000 to 60, 80k per tooth. -it can also get an infection if not kept well. Option 2 in fixed is bridge, i.e taking the help of adjacent teeth and making 3 teeth together. Adv -takes less time -less expensive than the implant. -it is fixed so no need to take it out. Dis adv -1. Two natural teeth are cut and in the future, there is likely that those abutment teeth may get a cavity, or sensitivity or may need a root canal. 2. If not kept well infection in gums, bone option 3 removable adv -takes very less time to make - vey much less expensive than implant, bridge. -not technique sensitive. Disadv - you got to remove it every night --gums and bones reduce with time. -chances of cavity and gum infection in the supporting teeth -mouth smell if not cleaned before implant came into practice, bridges were given as that was the only fixed treatment available. But with the implant invention, the topmost priority is given to implant when there is a need for fixed teeth because of many advantages over the bridge and removable. Deciding on not giving an implant and giving a bridge vary from case to case. -gum health -bone health -overall medical health of the patient -paying ability -what is patient expectation? -if patient is in hurry or there is less time for the treatment. -nearby labs are present or not -more qualified implant doctors available or not in case of any situation turn worse in implant surgery. So your dentist deciding on giving you a bridge depends on the above-mentioned factors. If the root canal is done perfectly, if you maintain your teeth all three of them then it may last for many years. If you want to let them be healthy forever, maintain oral hygiene, do floss, brush twice, brush at night, reduce sugar, and keep visiting the dentist every 6 9 12 months to get an xray of all three and keep them with you. And always compare your xray with the last ones you have taken. With this, your bridge may last for a longer time. Always remember even implant fails if no hygiene is maintained, if not brushed twice, if not flossed, etc. Do not worry things are done now. Now you have to follow up with him/her.
