Hello lybrate-user, Looking at your concern, pain in the neck might have started due to unsual or uncomfrotable pattern of sleep or a bad pillow (which could have been too soft or too hard). 1. Kindly check your pillow height and texture. It must be FIRM (not too hard, not too soft that your head sags inside the pillow) and must appropriately cover the back of your neck region. That is to prevent your normal curvature of the spine in the neck region. It could aslo be a muscle pull depending on the side where you sleep. 2. Gently apply ice pack covered around the neck for about 15-20 minutes, this will relieve pain. As it is fresh and acute, ice will work in the best manner to help you! Apply 4-5 times/day until your pain level goes down. Switch to moist heat (dip a towel in warm water) and cover around the neck. 3. Once pain goes down, move your neck up, down, side-side. Do not rotate vigorously to avoid muscle sprain or jerks. 10 times each side. 2-3 times/day. 4. Apply regular ointment/pain cream/lotion or reli spray/volini (do not rub on the muscular area) to relieve pain Do update me with the sleeping pattern. I would strongly recommend you to sleep on your back with a small towel/napkin rolled under your neck. This will maintain the curve of your spine and avoids direct pressure on your neck. Also, change your pillow type (if needed) Kindly update further on your pain status, feel free to ask me more queries. Take care Thank you.
