Do I have to take medicine for hypothyroidism life long? My T3 is 1.36 NMOL/L (Reference range: 1.30-3.10) and T4 is 88.34 NMOL/L (range: 66-181) while TSH and Anti-TPO is elevated to 5.11 MICRO IU/ML (range: 0.27-4.20) and 44.83 IU/ML respectively. I am told to continue for 2 months and if it turns normal I need not continue life long, Is that correct?

lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. Your TSH is marginally high, but with a slightly higher level of Anti TPO antibodies it appears you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (HT). Please let me know the reasons for getting the tests done otherwise the symptoms you are having. Since hypothyroidism is a hormone deficiency disease, that hormone (Thyroxine) needs to be supplemented every day for day to day functioning of various metabolic activities.
