Hello doctor, I am in very tensed situation as I went yesterday for routine blood test. The blood drawn was done by vacutainer. The syringe was new and the tube was also new but the holder was reused. And after taking blood I saw the person cleaning my blood from the mouth of holder. This scared me a lot as mine blood was there it might be possible that some other patient blood would be there who would be tested before me. I searched the internet and I scared more as reading that it might contract hiv, hep B and C. Sir what should I do now. Do I require testing for hiv? Is my fear real or it is only anxiety? Sir please answer asap.

The tube holder doesn't come in contact with the needle that enters the blood vessel. So even though it may be blood stained, doesn't enter anyone's body and hence the risk of disease transmission is almost nil. I do not think you need to panic for this reason at all. I wouldn't advice any tests just for the incident you described. You may go on for the tests if you have never been tested in the past and it is always a good idea to know your status. I may able to help you ore over private consult/chat.
