Hi lybrate-user, Regular use of tobacco and other products such as betel nuts and paan can lead to what is called Oral Submucous Fibrosis. This is what you might have developed. The first thing to understand is that you need to see a dental surgeon, or a specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon for an evaluation and confirmation of the diagnosis. If confirmed, appropriate treatment might range from local intralesional injection to surgery depending upon the stage of the disease. However, having said that, and irrespective of the diagnosis and treatment, any success in therapy would be dependent upon your cessation of your habit, and your willingness to participate in treatment by being regular with your visits, and with the prescribed home care, including physiotherapy.

Hi, Welcome to Lybrate. I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about mouth opening. Reduced mouth opening with tobacco or betal nuts chewing causes a condition called oral sub mucus fibrosis. You need to check your cheeks if their is white streaks present on your cheeks (inner side). You are suffering with it. There are interlesional steroid therapy for it. Before that you need to avoid further use of it. As oral submucus fibrosis is a pre malignant condition. If it is not treated properly it may lead to cancerous lesion after some time though it take more then 5-10 years to do so. Hope you will understand my point of view. Regards
