Hello lybrate-user, You need to take complex carbohydrates and moderate proteins pre-workout so that energy is released slowly while working out. It also depends on your workout time. If there is going to be a good gap of 2-2.5 hours between your meal and gym, only then include protein supplements or heavy dose of proteins. Proteins take longer to digest. So not to take too much of them if you have only 30-45 minutes in hand before the gym. Include following meals if you have 2-3 hours before hitting the gym: 1. Oats Porridge in Cow's milk (You can even add 1/2 scoop of whey if your health goal is to gain muscles) 2. Muesli with yogurt, nuts and seeds (I would recommend make almond, walnuts, sunflower seeds, chia seeds and pumpkin seeds powder: slightly roast them and grind). Add 2 tbsp pf this protein rich and Omega 3 rich powder in your porridges, milk shakes etc. 3. 2 Eggs and 3 whole wheat chapatis Many gym trainers would force clients to take whey pre workout without really considering the time whey takes for complete digestion. It might give stomach cramps and uneasy feeling if there is no good gap of at least 2 hours between whey consumption and your work out. Include following meals if you have only 30-45 minutes before hitting the gym: 1. 1 big apple or pear with handful of soaked nuts 3. Yogurt (150 ml) and 1 Banana 3. Apple wedges and 2-3 Tbsp Peanut Butter Hope that answers your query. Regards,

Hi lybrate-user! 30 min-1 hour before a work out, eating a banana or sliced apple wedges with peanut butter or Greek yogurt with dry fruits will help fuel your body. You can also try brown rice with vegetables or oatmeal porridge or omelettes made using whole eggs, 2-3 hours before a work out. Happy work out!
