X-linked Ichthyosis is a part of the five main types of Ichthyosis and only affects males. The other four types of Ichthyosis are lamellar Ichthyosis, congenita ichthyosis erythroderma, Ichthyosis vulgaris and epidermolytic Ichthyosis. In patients with this defect, the skin cells are produced effectively, but they do not separate properly, resulting in the development of scales on the body. The scales are dark and generally appear only on certain areas of the body like the face, hands, scalp, sole of the feet etc. This condition can be detected at a pre-natal stage via genetic testing. Topical treatment for X-linked Ichthyosis works best.
HOW IS X-LINKED ICHTHYOSIS DIAGNOSED?
