Ringworm infection is a type of fungal attacks that affects the skin of the body and spreads to other parts of the body. The identification signs of this disorder are circular ring shaped patches on the skin which are itchy, red and swollen. The medical term for a ringworm infection is dermatophytosis. In some rare cases the ringworms also tend to develop around the nails of the fingers and the toes. Under this the nails become cracked, discolored or thicker in nature. Additionally, if this condition develops on the scalp, then small patches of baldness will start to appear on the scalp of a person.

Children are more likely to get certain types of ringworm, but a person can get infected with the fungus at any age.
