Home Remedies for Irregular Period: Procedure, Recovery, Risk & Complication

What is the remedy about?

An irregular period is a common problem among women and it usually affects one in every two women. It refers to the infrequent menstrual cycle that has a gap of more than 35 days. There are many attributes that are becoming a leading cause for such scenarios. Lifestyle triggers like increased exercise, smoking, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, travel, stress, and even certain medications have all contributed to this problem. You need to get yourself checked with a doctor if you are facing this problem regularly. There are also some home remedies you can use for having regular periods.

  1. Ginger
    Ginger can be highly beneficial in regulating menstrual periods and also in relieving menstrual pain. They are also highly beneficial in combating menstrual cramps. To use this, boil half a teaspoon of freshly ground ginger in a cup of water for five minutes. Add a little sugar or honey to it and drink this three times a day – preferably after the meals. Try this out for a month at least for getting better results.
  2. Cinnamon
    Cinnamon is also highly beneficial in regulating menstrual cycles and in reducing menstrual cramps. It also regulates the insulin level to a great extent. Add half teaspoon of cinnamon powder to a glass of warm milk. Use honey if needed and drink this daily for several weeks. You can even add cinnamon to your foods alternatively.
  3. Sesame Seeds and Jaggery
    Sesame seeds are also useful in regulating menstrual cycles. They help in balancing your hormones and together with jaggery has an over al warming effect. To make this, dry roast some sesame seeds and grind them with some jaggery into a fine powder. Take one teaspoon of this powder daily on an empty stomach in the luteal phase, or second half of your menstrual cycle (two weeks before your period starts), for a few months. DO not use this procedure during your periods. Use them in the phases before your period starts.

Are there any side effects?

Do not use cinnamon in high quantities as some users might suffer from allergic reactions. But this is a rare occurrence and you can usually use it safely. When using the jaggery, make sure that they it is free of impurities. Buy fresh products from reputed stores to prevent any side effects. Consult your gynaecologist if your condition doesn't improve or if you face some other problem. Try and follow a healthy diet and avoid alcohol for the best results.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

Avoid heavy exercises or work when undergoing these home remedies. Take plenty of water and liquids to hydrate your body. Also ensure that you keep your surroundings clean and pure. Take foods that are high in proteins and vitamins and alternatively supplement them with a health drink. Consult with your doctor on the best supplements to have for more regular periods.

How long does it take to recover?

Recovery is usually not immediate and can depend on how serious your problem is. Most women experience regular periods; but abnormalities can occur now and then.   • Boil 10 gram seeds of Tulsi with water and drink. This remedy very useful in Irregular menstrual cycle treatment.
  • Boil shoots of Neem with water and filter. Drink thrice a day in irregular menstrual cycle treatment.
  • Eat 100 gram grapes daily three times to get regular menstrual cycle.
  • Boil black Til (Sesame seed) and Gur (Treacle) with water. Use this solution 3-4 times a day to get a regular menstrual cycle. You can also use the decoction of Til and Gokharu (Caltrop) herb plant to relieve from periods pain. If you suffered with heavy pain during menstrual periods? Then start using this decoction 3-4 days before monthly menstrual cycle.
  • In Home remedies for Irregular menstrual cycle, carrot is also used. Daily drink the juice of carrot and Chukandara (beet root) one glass in irregular menstrual cycle treatment.

Mix some Sonth (Dried ginger) for better results. Use 2-3 time a day to cure Irregular menstrual cycle treatment. To treat severe period pain, use decoction of Bathua seeds twice or trice a day. Use this treatment for regular time period till cure menstrual pain.

Irregular periods or delayed menstruation/ periods is a common problem faced by women. Irregular periods are also known as oligomenorrhea. The average menstrual cycle is for about 28 days. Though this no can increase or go down for some woman. Due to hormonal imbalance or certain other factor a women can face irregularity in periods or menstruation. This can be due to stress, certain medicines, strenuous exercising, poor diet, anemia, tuberculosis, irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes etc. For the normal menses and regularity of the periods, there are various home remedies that can cure the irregular periods at home.

Natural cures for irregular periods at home.

1. Bitter gourd for irregular periods

Bitter gourd or karela in hindi, is a good cure for the irregular periods condition. Daily consumption of a 2 teaspoonful of karela juice will promote the regularity in the periods and menstruation.

Ginger is a multipurpose product which has so many health related benefits. Ginger juice is highly recommended as a good home remedy to treat the irregular periods. Fruits and vegetable should be taken in decent portions. Fruit and vegetables are rich in vital vitamins minerals etc which helps in blood formation, prevents anaemia, helps to cure hormonal imbalance. Certain fruit enzymes also relive stress as well.

2. Olive oil

3. Banana mask

Banana is full of vitamins and nutrients. To use it make a creamy texture of banana by mashing it in a bowl. Apply this on to your skin surface and let the skin absorb the banana extracts. After 30 minutes wash it off with normal water.

You can also use banana with papaya pulps to make the mask more effective. Apply it on the skin surface and keep for some time to allow the skin to absorb the nutrients. After 20 minutes wash it off with lukewarm water. You can do this 2-3 times a week for good results.

4. Aloevera

Aloe vera is popular for its anti fungal and antimicrobial properties. It helps the skin to be free from any external agent and hydrates the skin.

You can take out the extract from an aloevera leaf shaft or aloevera gel is available in the market readily. Apply the gel on the skin as such. The other way of using it is by mixing with egg white. The combination of both helps in revitalizing the skin. Do this 2 times a week to get better outcomes.

5. Fenugreek seeds

Fenugreek can be used in multiple ways, as it is a great antidote its leaves, seeds and oil, all can be used for betterment of skin and its healthiness. The paste of fenugreek leaves can be applied on the skin surface. It has antioxidant properties that aid to the rejuvination of the skin.

The seeds can be made use of by boiling in water. Use this water for cleaning face. Massaging fenugreek oil can help in letting the skin to get minerals and nutrients.

6. Honey

Honey is useful in maintaining the ph level of the skin. It diminishes the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles. It can be applied directly on the skin. 7. Papaya

8. Baking soda

9. Yoghurt

Hello, you can take homoeopathic medicines 1. Pulsatilla 30 (4 drops in little water) every morning empty stomach only one dose in a day for 15 days. 2. Jonesia Ashoka Q ( 10 drops in little water) thrice a day for 15 days and revert.

Hello- start sesame seeds 1 tsp twice before meals. Use a little bit of asfoetida (heeng) along with eat. Eat fiber rich diet and keep your bowels clean specially before menses. Practice kapalbhati, it promotes easy flow of blood during menses.

Use warm water for drinking,take healthy ,warm food,fresh fruits,dry fruits,take proper rest,sound sleep,do regular exercise, yoga,pranayam. Avoid- chilled water,cold drink, foods kept in fridge,oily,spicy,outside food,water, avoid late night works, travelling ,overexertion during menstruation. best luck..

- take 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.
- add an equal amount of water.
- add 15-20 drops of tea tree oil.
- mix the ingredients well.
- massage your scalp with the mixture.
- rinse after a few minutes.
- follow this remedy 2-3 times a week.

Irregular Menstrual Bleeding
Hello, I am Dr. Pooja Sharma Dimri. I'm a gynecologist occupation and an infertility specialist. I also specialized in minimally invasive surgery, gynecology including operative laparoscopy and histroscophy copy. Now I'm going to talk about a very common complaint with women present with us, which is irregular menstrual bleeding. Irregular menstrual bleeding may be in the form of delayed or irregular periods or heavy menstrual bleeding or frequent menstrual cycles. Most of the common cause of this irregular menstrual bleeding is hormonal issues like polycystic ovarian disease or hyperthyroidism.

In other cases, the cause of heavy or irregular menstrual bleeding maybe some pathology in the uterus like fibroids, polyps, abnormalities in the uterine lining or the endometrium to diagnose the cause of the regular or the heavy menstrual bleeding.

Before we go on to treatment we may need to do certain investigations like the hormonal profile to her on hormonal issues, sonography of the uterus and the pelvis to see for any nutrient pathology but sometimes all pathology may not be detected by the imaging studies and the blood investigation and we may require a hysteroscopy or a minimally invasive surgery to diagnose and treat these pathologies. Now hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive technique in which a specialized scope or telescope is put inside the uterine cavity in which we can directly visualize any pathology like a small uterine polyp or thickened endometrium at the same thing. That pathology can be removed and the endometrial lining can be sent for a biopsy.

In cases of older patients and specially in the ferryman age group, it is very important to rule out chances of cancers of the uterus. So in case of in irregular menstrual bleeding it is better to consult your gynecologist to rule out abnormal pathology.

How to manage delayed Menstrual Cycle?

Today would like to talk on a topic which I encounter practically everyday in my practice that is young patient in the age group of 18-30yrs coming with the problem of delayed periods.

Now, delayed periods is something which bothers everybody. Again delayed period, first thing we need to rule out pregnancy. I've now encountered a lot of young girls, even unmarried girls who're now sexually active and they come with a history of delayed periods and they're very anxious and panicky. Now, once you've a delayed period first thing you need to see if you're sexually active is rule out pregnancy, and that thing can be done with either urine test or there are blood tests available for that. Once that has been ruled out then comes as to why the periods have been delayed and how often have you been getting this delayed periods.
If it's one of the random episode you're having then you need not bother, you just need to maintain a menstrual calender and see that how often your periods are delayed.

Now mind you in periods, plus or minus 8 days is considered normal. So 3-4 days of delay or 3-4 days of getting early period should not bother you.
