Home Remedies for Irregular Period: Procedure, Recovery, Risk & Complication

What is the remedy about?

An irregular period is a common problem among women and it usually affects one in every two women. It refers to the infrequent menstrual cycle that has a gap of more than 35 days. There are many attributes that are becoming a leading cause for such scenarios. Lifestyle triggers like increased exercise, smoking, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, travel, stress, and even certain medications have all contributed to this problem. You need to get yourself checked with a doctor if you are facing this problem regularly. There are also some home remedies you can use for having regular periods.

  1. Ginger
    Ginger can be highly beneficial in regulating menstrual periods and also in relieving menstrual pain. They are also highly beneficial in combating menstrual cramps. To use this, boil half a teaspoon of freshly ground ginger in a cup of water for five minutes. Add a little sugar or honey to it and drink this three times a day – preferably after the meals. Try this out for a month at least for getting better results.
  2. Cinnamon
    Cinnamon is also highly beneficial in regulating menstrual cycles and in reducing menstrual cramps. It also regulates the insulin level to a great extent. Add half teaspoon of cinnamon powder to a glass of warm milk. Use honey if needed and drink this daily for several weeks. You can even add cinnamon to your foods alternatively.
  3. Sesame Seeds and Jaggery
    Sesame seeds are also useful in regulating menstrual cycles. They help in balancing your hormones and together with jaggery has an over al warming effect. To make this, dry roast some sesame seeds and grind them with some jaggery into a fine powder. Take one teaspoon of this powder daily on an empty stomach in the luteal phase, or second half of your menstrual cycle (two weeks before your period starts), for a few months. DO not use this procedure during your periods. Use them in the phases before your period starts.

Are there any side effects?

Do not use cinnamon in high quantities as some users might suffer from allergic reactions. But this is a rare occurrence and you can usually use it safely. When using the jaggery, make sure that they it is free of impurities. Buy fresh products from reputed stores to prevent any side effects. Consult your gynaecologist if your condition doesn't improve or if you face some other problem. Try and follow a healthy diet and avoid alcohol for the best results.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

Avoid heavy exercises or work when undergoing these home remedies. Take plenty of water and liquids to hydrate your body. Also ensure that you keep your surroundings clean and pure. Take foods that are high in proteins and vitamins and alternatively supplement them with a health drink. Consult with your doctor on the best supplements to have for more regular periods.

How long does it take to recover?

Recovery is usually not immediate and can depend on how serious your problem is. Most women experience regular periods; but abnormalities can occur now and then. These types of symptoms can be easily cured. You can take care of your daily activities too while undergoing these home remedies. These remedies are safe and can be easily followed even after you have been cured.

Are the results of the remedy permanent?

Whether you will start having regular periods or not will depend on how well you take care of your body after these remedies. Also, irregular periods are common when one reaches menopause. So try to start following these remedies even if you have suffered from one irregular period. Drink adequate water, consume fresh fruits and vegetables and take healthy proteins. Consult your gynaecologist if the problem remains.

Is there any training or experts required?

These remedies do not require any special expertise. However, know your body type and the reason for not having a regular period before hand. Also, do not take any herbs or ingredients in high quantities. Always check if you are allergic to certain substances, before consuming the same. Causes of Slip Disc- Slip disk is caused when the jelly like substance present in the disks bulges out. The damaged disk thus puts pressure on the adjacent nerve causing excruciating pain. The various causes of a slipped disk are: Incorrect form during exercise: If you are into weight lifting, it is important that you use proper form during exercising. Moves like barbell squat and deadlifts can put pressure on the spine and lead to disk problems, if not done correctly. Make sure you work on your core strength and keep your lower back straight while exercising. Smoking: Smoking causes the disks to lose their flexibility and thus, increases the risk of slipped disk. Ageing: Ageing decreases the content of water in the spine, thus leading to inflexibility. Symptoms- The symptoms of slip disk are: Pain on one side of the body that tends to aggravate over time. Activities such as sitting and coughing may lead to pressure on the spine causing pain. Your range of motion on certain movements may be restricted. Pain in the neck while moving it. Numbness in the shoulder and the neck region. You may experience tingling sensations in the genitals, hips and the legs. You may have muscles spasms which lead to sudden contraction of the muscles. It may also lead to partial paralysis of the lower body. Prevention If you are overweight, try to reduce weight and then focus on maintaining healthy weight levels. Maintain proper posture while sitting or standing. Exercise on a regular basis to build strength and keep your joints healthy. Don't remain in seated position for an extended period of time. Take small breaks in between to stretch.

Refined flour, white sugar, cheese, canned juices, frozen foods, cheese laden pizzas and breads are all yummy, but not something that is readily accepted and digested by your stomach. The most common problem they lead to is constipation as digestive organs find it increasingly difficult to digest them. While it is advisable to stay away from junk foods or at least not have them very frequently, if its consumption has caused you constipation and you'are looking for ways to find relief, here are some quick ayurvedic remedies for you: 1. Aloe vera - Besides acting as a remedy for minor burns and cuts, aloe vera gel also helps soothe your stomach. It functions as a natural laxative by making your stool softer. Moreover, it aids in protein digestion and makes the muscular structure of your intestines stronger, consequently providing relief from constipation. Have 2 tablespoons of aloe gel in morning by mixing it with your glass of fruit juice, or consume 1 cup of aloe vera juice. 2. Castor oil - Castor oil is often referred to as a stimulant laxative and is a very useful remedy for constipation. Castor oil enables smooth movement and functioning of the intestines, making it easier for stool to pass. Drink 1 to 2 teaspoons of castor oil on an empty stomach. Coconut Oil and Flaxseed - Coconut oil is a wonderful hydrating agent and eases stools. Flaxseeds help in the elimination of toxins, excess fat and cholesterol from the body. So in one tablespoon of coconut oil, add half a teaspoon of flaxseeds, chew well and eat this in morning. 4. Baking Powder - Baking powder has an alkalizing effect and eases movement through the bowels. Add a teaspoon to 1/4 cup of warm water and drink it quickly for best results.

An abnormal swelling in the neck can be symptom of various problems. While it can be something as non-threatening as a swollen gland due to a cold that can be cured with simple medication, a swollen neck can also turn out to be a cancerous lump in the neck. When faced with an irregular swelling in the neck, it is best to not panic or jump to conclusions until you consult with an Ear-Nose-Throat Specialist. The possible problems that a swelling in the neck can indicate are: Swelling or enlargement of the salivary glands: The salivary glands may become enlarged due to an infection or due to foreign materials getting stuck in them. While foreign objects or formation of stones in the salivary glands might require surgical removal, they can often be dissolved with medication and other non-invasive treatments. And infection in the salivary glands is often treated with antibiotics or other medication. These treatments can be prescribed and administered by ENT Specialists. Thyroid disease: The thyroid gland may swell up and cause a swelling of the neck. These are often called goiters in colloquial language and are a result of thyroid diseases such as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Diabetes and wellness Know your blood sugar levels if you are diabetic or if you are living with diabetics In the 1950s, the method a person used to check blood glucose levels was to drop a reagent tablet into a small test tube containing a few drops of urine mixed with water. The 1970s and 1980s marked are a turning point in the treatment of diabetes. Innovations such as blood glucose readers and strips measuring blood glucose (sugar) levels gave patients and doctors good tool to measure diabetes. A) diabeties is diagnosed when the fasting plasma glucose is 126 mg/dl or random blood glucose 200 mg/dl b) prediabetes is diagnosed when value of fasting blood glucose 110 125 mg/dl and 2 hr post prandial sugars between 140 to 199 mg /dl. Hba1c Normal range: 4.5 5.6% Prediabetes range: 5.7 6.4% Diabetic range: 6.5% Glycated hemoglobin (hba1c) is a form of hemoglobin that is measured primarily to identify the three-month average plasma glucose concentration. For newly diagnosed patients of diabetes, hba1c test has to be done along with fasting and postprandial sugar before starting treatment and it has to be repeated once in 3 months. Many people are not aware of hba1c test. Once diabetic, this test has to be done every 3 months and it has to be done in standardised laboratory for accuracy. Now a days urine sugar testing has no importance. It is not considered in diagnosis or follow up of diabetes. Avoid testing urine sugar for follow up with doctor. How frequently to check blood sugar? Checking blood sugar depends on the severity of diabetes. I suggest to check fasting sugar, 2 hrs post breakfast and predinner sugar with glucometer at home once a week. If diabetes is well controlled, follow up with the doctor once in 3 month with fbs/ppbs and hba1c report. If sugars are moderately controlled and on insulin, follow up with doctor atleast once in 2 months. If blood sugars are erratic and not in control, once a month consultation is necessary. Remember hba1c testing has to be done only once in 3 months.

The question is this, that I really have PAH or it is just misdiagnosed due to fast HR which put pressure on this? Hi lybrate-user, white discharge could be normal physiological discharge, it is too soon to predict whether you are pregnant. Relax, have a healthy diet, take folic acid, and do urine pregnancy test when you miss your periods. All the best.

Hi lybrate-user. Emergency contraception taken after 72 hrs of unprotected relations will not be effective. The chances of pregnancy due to relations on day 3 of periods are slim. So wait for the periods and do a pregnancy test if you miss periods. All the best.

I and my bf had some intimate moments with jeans on. We both were wearing jeans. It was on 17th jan and on 19th jan I observed some brown discharge and I was ill also and that brown discharge continued till 5th feb which was my periods date and I started bleeding normally. But whenever I was eating something I vomited but now its ok. I took a pregnancy test on 6th feb which was negative. Is there still any chances of pregnancy?
