Home Remedies for Irregular Period: Procedure, Recovery, Risk & Complication

What is the remedy about?

An irregular period is a common problem among women and it usually affects one in every two women. It refers to the infrequent menstrual cycle that has a gap of more than 35 days. There are many attributes that are becoming a leading cause for such scenarios. Lifestyle triggers like increased exercise, smoking, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, travel, stress, and even certain medications have all contributed to this problem. You need to get yourself checked with a doctor if you are facing this problem regularly. There are also some home remedies you can use for having regular periods.

  1. Ginger
Ginger can be highly beneficial in regulating menstrual periods and also in relieving menstrual pain. They are also highly beneficial in combating menstrual cramps. To use this, boil half a teaspoon of freshly ground ginger in a cup of water for five minutes. Add a little sugar or honey to it and drink this three times a day – preferably after the meals. Try this out for a month at least for getting better results.
  2. Cinnamon
Cinnamon is also highly beneficial in regulating menstrual cycles and in reducing menstrual cramps. It also regulates the insulin level to a great extent. Add half teaspoon of cinnamon powder to a glass of warm milk. Use honey if needed and drink this daily for several weeks. You can even add cinnamon to your foods alternatively.
  3. Sesame Seeds and Jaggery
Sesame seeds are also useful in regulating menstrual cycles. They help in balancing your hormones and together with jaggery has an over al warming effect. To make this, dry roast some sesame seeds and grind them with some jaggery into a fine powder. Take one teaspoon of this powder daily on an empty stomach in the luteal phase, or second half of your menstrual cycle (two weeks before your period starts), for a few months. DO not use this procedure during your periods. Use them in the phases before your period starts.

Are there any side effects?

Do not use cinnamon in high quantities as some users might suffer from allergic reactions. But this is a rare occurrence and you can usually use it safely. When using the jaggery, make sure that they it is free of impurities. Buy fresh products from reputed stores to prevent any side effects. Consult your gynaecologist if your condition doesn't improve or if you face some other problem. Try and follow a healthy diet and avoid alcohol for the best results.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

Avoid heavy exercises or work when undergoing these home remedies. Take plenty of water and liquids to hydrate your body. Also ensure that you keep your surroundings clean and pure. Take foods that are high in proteins and vitamins and alternatively supplement them with a health drink. Consult with your doctor on the best supplements to have for more regular periods.

How long does it take to recover?

Recovery is usually not immediate and can depend on how serious your problem is. Most women experience regular periods; but abnormalities can occur now and then. These types of symptoms can be easily cured. You can take care of your daily activities too while undergoing these home remedies. These remedies are safe and can be easily followed even after you have been cured.

Are the results of the remedy permanent?

Whether you will start having regular periods or not will depend on how well you take care of your body after these remedies. Also, irregular periods are common when one reaches menopause. So try to start following these remedies even if you have suffered from one irregular period. Drink adequate water, consume fresh fruits and vegetables and take healthy proteins. Consult your gynaecologist if the problem remains.

Is there any training or experts required?

These remedies do not require any special expertise. However, know your body type and the reason for not having a regular period before hand. Also, do not take any herbs or ingredients in high quantities. Always check if you are allergic to certain substances, before consuming the same. If the symptoms do not go away through such home remedies, do check with your physician immediately. Avoid OTC medications as they do more harm than good.

Ankylosing Spondylitis - Homeopathic Treatment For It!
The backbone (spine) has smooth movement with smooth intervertebral disks. However, this fluid movement can be limited due to arthritis, which can happen due to many reasons genetic to age to injury to infection to tumors. The lower back has two sets of spinal disks sacral and iliac. This sacroiliac region has an elastic vertebral tissue. This could be gradually replaced with hard bone, which can cause fusion between the disks. Such a condition is known as ankylosing spondylitis (fusing disk spaces), which is a type of arthritis. The typical symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) are morning pain and stiffness in the low back and upper buttocks, which gradually decrease as the day goes by. The symptoms usually start and continue to gradually worsen over a period of 3 to 6 months. In severe cases, there could be spinal fractures, but in most cases, pain, stiffness and reduced movement are the main complaints. Why homeopathy for AS (Ankylosing spondylitis)? Major benefits of homeopathy could be summarized as under: It addresses altered immune system, treating the roots of this autoimmune disease. It helps in pain control without side effects. It aims at disease control. It is absolutely safe even if used for a long time. Homeopathic medicines are prescribed on the basis of individual case evaluation by taking into account patient s genetic, immunological and psychological parameters. It is safe and effective as a long-term therapy. It reduces pain, improves mobility and most importantly, controls the disease. It has no adverse effects. Homeopathy helps AS patients by acting on the immune system, which is usually overactive in these people. Depending on the presenting symptoms, the doctor will prescribe a customized regimen for the patient. Rhus Tox: This is the first medicine of choice when the patient experiences sacral/lumbar area pain that is worse at rest, with sitting, or after a period of inactivity. The pain radiates down the legs to the foot. Walking or any other activity/motion provides relief from the pain. Aesculus: This is indicated in patients who have extremely painful and stiff low back and hips. The pain is a constant ache and there is discomfort with trying to rise from a seat, stooping, and walking, where greater effort is required. There is a feeling that the legs would give way, adding to resistance while walking. Kalmia: This is used in patients where the back pain and stiffness are accompanied by a warm, numb, and prickly sensation. Low back pain and neck pain is associated with a burning sensation. The pain appears in sudden bursts in the early parts of the night and travels down the arm or up into the scapula. Kali Carb: This is indicated where there is extreme weakness along with AS symptoms of pain and stiffness in the lumbosacral back area. The patient feels like he is going through a paralytic attack and must lie down to rest. This is a feeling similar to a broken back, and can extend up into the neck or down to the legs. The symptoms are more severe in the early morning hours. Changing positions in the bed worsens the pain.

Facial Rejuvenation: Advantages of Dermal Fillers For Perfect Skin!
Facial aging is an issue which shows its first signs around the late twenties and early thirties. It is manifested in the form of fine lines, dark circles, wrinkles and rough skin, especially near the eyes and lips. This process cannot be reversed. It is a part of human body and the way the skin matures with age. But, it can be treated through surgical and non-surgical or natural means to make sure that the process of aging is slowed down. Factors Affecting Facial Aging: There are several factors which affect the facial aging and aggravate the process faster. Some of these factors are: If you smoke excessively, your face would sooner or later start showing signs of aging prematurely. At times, this process gains speed due to genetic issues. Stress and anxiety are the most important reasons for a person to start showing signs of aging at an early stage of life. If you lead a hectic lifestyle which involves excessive travelling throughout different climates, the exhaustion may be manifested through facial aging. What are Dermal Fillers? Dermal fillers help to diminish facial lines and restore volume and fullness in the face. As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat. The facial muscles are then working closer to the skin surface, so smile lines and crow's feet become more apparent. The facial skin also stretches a bit, adding to this loss of facial volume. Other factors that affect the facial skin include sun exposure, heredity, and lifestyle. Dermal fillers can be used to: Plump thin lips Enhance shallow contours Soften facial creases and wrinkles Improve the appearance of recessed scars Dermal fillers can be very helpful in those with early signs of aging, or as a value-added part of facial rejuvenation surgery. Administration: You must make a note of the fact that dermal filling is not considered to be a type of surgical treatment. However, it does use anaesthesia while being administered. In fact, the patient is first given a dose of anaesthesia and left to rest for about half an hour. Some fillers have anesthesia in the syringe itself otherwise, we apply numbing cream or topical anesthesia. Thereafter, dermal fillings are applied with the help of fine needles. You need to realise that the use of fine needles with precision can be done only by those who have been specially trained for it. Thus, if your dermatologist recommends you for a treatment of dermal filling, then he/she ought to be a trained expert in carrying out the procedure. If you, on your own prefer to get this treatment done, then you should also find an expert who is well trained in administering this procedure. Thus, dermal fillers are quite famous in the world of facial dermatology to reverse the aging process. It helps in reducing fine lines, wrinkles and adds volume and smoothness to the skin.

Appendectomy - Long Term Complications Associated With It!
What is an Appendectomy? An appendectomy (which is sometimes referred to appendicectomy ) is the surgical elimination of the organ known as the appendix. Appendectomy is mostly performed as an emergency surgical procedure, when patients suffer from appendicitis. How is Appendectomy Performed? Appendectomy can be performed both as an open operation as well as laparoscopically. An appendectomy is most often performed laparoscopically, if the diagnosis is in doubt, or if the patients feel that they need to hide their telltale surgical scars near their umbilicus or in the pubic hair line. However, although laparoscopic appendectomy has its cosmetic advantages, and its recovery time is a little quicker, this procedure is more expensive than conventional open surgery. Conventional Open Appendectomy- In the conventional open surgery, the surgeon makes an incision which is less than 3 inches in length in the lower right section of the abdomen. Once the infected appendix is identified, the surgeon separates the infected appendix from its surrounding tissues and removes it surgically from the cecum (an intraperitoneal pouch that forms the junction of the small and large intestine). After that, the cecum is closed and is returned back into the abdomen. In the end, the muscle layers and the skin are sewn together and the incision is closed. Laparoscopic Appendectomy (LA)- While performing appendectomy laparoscopically, which is also known as LA, four incisions of 1 inch in length are made in the abdomen. One incision is made near the umbilicus, while another one is made in an appropriate region between the umbilicus and the pubis. The other two incisions, which are even smaller in size, are made in the right side of the lower abdomen. The surgeon then passes the camera and special laparoscopy instruments through these openings and after identifying, frees the appendix from its surrounding tissues. Next, the appendix is removed from the cecum and the site of its former attachment is sewed. The infected appendix is removed from the body of the patient through any one of the two 1 inch incisions. In the end, the laparoscopic instruments are removed and the incisions are sutured and closed. During this whole procedure, the intraperitoneal space is filled with medical grade carbon dioxide gas, to inflate the abdomen, which is released after the surgery. Recovery Time For Appendectomy- The recovery time for appendectomy depends on and varies with the type of procedure and anesthesia used during the surgery. While laparoscopic appendectomy can be done on an outpatient basis so that the patients can recover back at home, an open surgical procedure will require an overnight or even longer hospital stay. Normally patients after appendectomy can resume their normal daily activities within a few days. However, for full recovery, it may take four to six weeks. Patients are advised to avoid strenuous activities during this period of time. Risk and Long Term Consequences of Removing the Appendix- While wound infections are the most common complications of this surgery, formation of an abscess in the area of the surgical incision and also in the area close to the removed appendix has also been noticed as an aftermath of appendectomy. Other rare complications may include lack of intestinal peristalsis (ileus), gangrene of the bowel, injuries to the internal organs and infections in the peritoneal cavity (peritonitis). Major long-term consequences of appendectomy include increased risks of bowel obstruction, stump appendicitis (infection in the retained portion of the appendix still stuck with the cecum) and development of incisional hernia at the site of the scar.

Eat These 5 Foods And You Will Never Need Botox!
What you eat has a direct effect on your skin; eat healthy and your skin looks healthy, eat unhealthy food and your skin looks dull. Eating right can even fight signs of aging thus, negating the need for procedures like Botox. Not only does it cost less, but healthy food boosts your overall health as well. Here are 6 such foods that can help you fight signs of aging and give you a flawless complexion. Turmeric: Turmeric is well known for its yellow colour and anti-inflammatory properties. Many home remedies suggest the use of turmeric for a number of health ailments including skin conditions. Turmeric can fight signs of aging by reducing inflammation and oxidation. This, in turn, helps the skin heal faster. This spice can be added to your food or mixed with warm milk to benefit from it. Tomatoes: Tomatoes are rich sources of vitamin C and lycopene. Vitamin C helps stimulate the production of collagen and hence keeps the skin firm while lycopene protects the skin against harmful UV radiation. As a general rule of thumb, the deeper red the tomato is, the better it is. Berries: Berries such as blueberries and raspberries are excellent sources of Vitamin E and antioxidants that fight against the effects of pollution and rids the body of free radicals and other toxins that cause premature aging. These berries also have anthocyanins that boost the effects of vitamin C Honey: Honey can be eaten or applied topically on the skin to benefit from it. Honey helps keep the body hydrated by absorbing moisture and preventing the skin from drying out. It also has antibacterial properties that prevent acne and other breakouts. Ideally, honey should be used and consumed in its raw, unprocessed form. Nuts: Nuts are a great snack that keeps your skin looking young and fresh. Almonds are excellent sources of vitamin E that help fight acne, psoriasis and eczema among other skin ailments. Walnuts are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids that keep the skin soft and supple. Brazil nuts are also rich sources of vitamin E. However, keep in mind the high calorific value of these nuts and do not overindulge in them. Avocados: Avocados are filled with essential fatty acids that moisturize and nourish skin. They are also rich in Vitamin B, C and E. While vitamin C boosts collagen production, vitamin E maintains the elasticity of skin and prevents sagging.

Dear lybrate-user, it is often said that an empty mind is a devil's workshop. Your younger brother in involving himself in more of these activities as his energies are not goal directed. The aggressiveness, the substance abuse, masturbation etc are just ways in which he is expressing his pent up energies, which is a basic need. In fact using substances is a sign of escaping responsibilities. He is a 25 year guy. The main concern is why isn't he involved in any job, or business. One reason could be that he is staying stuck because he is being fed, given money and allowed to have his ways at home, thus not requiring him to take up any responsibilities. The mother and other significant family members need to stop over pampering him, and least of all be afraid of his threats or anger. What needs to be done is eventually dig into the reasons why he doesn't study or work, probably because of comparisons or some failures as student, work or lack in confidence, that is being covered by aggressiveness in him.

We observe actions of our elders when we're young and learn values behind those actions for them. It could be possible that you may have a suppressed feeling of guilt, and a significant family member who was very particular about cleanliness at home. Therefore, you may have unconsciously learnt this habit of cleaning your hands whenever a particular thought/feeling disturbs you. Consulting a psychologist at the earliest may help you reach the root cause of this problem, and once you understand that, you maybe able to get rid of this compulsive behaviour.
