Hi I am 31 years old male. I recently did my tests and everything is fine accept my cholesterol is little bit on the higher side. My total cholesterol is 240. Please let me know what should I do to fix this problem. Thanks.

Hello patient, start with flex seed oil tablet morning and night 1 tab. And exercise daily, reduce your non veg food and oily foodstuff.

Hello Lybrate user. You can easily fix this problem with some dietary changes and lifestyle modification. Avoid fatty and spicy food, avoid smoking and consuming liquor if you used to. Take fibre rich diet like whole grain food, oats, salad, almonds, flex seed etc. Avoid sedentary life and go for jogging/ brisk walk/ cycling. Do pranayam and yoga. There are some ayurvedic medicines that can prevent you from this problem in future. For more query pls consult me.

start exercising for atleast 20 min per day, jogging., cycling , weight training etc. best skipping for 10 min each day. u can take hearty cap. twice a day.

Exercise daily for 45 minutes a day brisk walk daily at a speed not less then 5.1 km /hr daily for 15 minutes eat low salt food Hi 240 mg/dm at a age of 31 is alarming add fibres to you diet reduce your weight don't take ghee or butter use saffola or olive oil instead. Take low fat food avoid dairy produ1. No alcohol 2. Reduce body wt 3. No smoking/ tobacco 4. Diet - no ghee/ butter, have mix of vegetable oils - mustard, til, ground nut, olive oil, have more green vegetables and fruits, have whole grain atta, no fried. Fast. Spicy / processed/ junk food. Less sugar, potato, rice 5. 30 mts brisk walk daily 6. Deep breathing exercise for 10 mts daily 7. Meditation daily for 10 mts. 6-8 hrs of sleep at night 8. Expose your body to sun for 15-20 mts daily after some oil massage to get vit d. 9. Take more water you can also start capsule prelipid or a statin for 3 months, follow up for doses.

You have not mentioned your complete lipid profile report. Please mention that. Start with 1) Diet change (consult a dietician for healthy heart diet) 2) Start exercising target should be 45 mins of brisk walking daily. 3) Quit smoking if you do. 4) reduce alcohol intake. Repeat levels after 6 weeks of precautions, if still high you may need medications.
