On the other hand, ulcerative colitis is essentially an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that presents with chronic or prolonged inflammation of the innermost lining of the colon or rectum. The exact cause of IBD though largely unknown, immune malfunction could possibly lead to IBD.
