Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. In your case, it may not necessarily be breast cancer although breast cancer is one of the causes of retracted/ inverted nipples. To be on a safer side, I would advise that you get this clinically examined by your ob/ gyn right away and not delay any further. Please note that imaging, either through mammography or mri subsequently followed by a biopsy, is always the gold standard for accurate diagnosis of breast cancer. I wish you all the very best. Do take care. Sincerely,

Dear lybrate-user, retracted nipples are the symptoms of cancer. Inverted nipples is usually a developmental anomaly. Often by child birth and lactation, they arrive to the normal location. If they were previously protruding and then have retracted, then you need further evaluation. But if they have remained the same from childhood to present, it's not a cause for worry. A gynaecologist can guide you for this and later during child birth and lactation.
