Withdrawal bleeding and implantation bleeding can sometimes be confusing, as they can have similar characteristics. However, there are some differences between the two: timing: withdrawal bleeding typically occurs a few days after stopping hormonal birth control or during the hormone-free interval of combination birth control pills. Implantation bleeding, on the other hand, occurs around 6-12 days after fertilization when the fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. Duration and flow: withdrawal bleeding often resembles a normal period, lasting for a few days with a moderate flow. Implantation bleeding, on the other hand, is usually lighter and shorter in duration, lasting only a day or two. It is also not as heavy as a regular period. Color and consistency: withdrawal bleeding often has a similar color and consistency to a normal period. Implantation bleeding is usually light pink or brownish in color and may appear as spotting or light discharge.
