Hi doctor, I was diagonized with hypothyroidism 2 years back with my tsh level being 4.59 whereas it should be between 0-4. I started with 25 mg n 2 months later my tsh levels increased to 5.4. I continued taking tablets for 8 months or so and den stopped gradually by once in 2 days or 3 days and so on. Its been one year since I stopped taking tablets and recently when I took tests my tsh levels were 1.29. My doctors told me once I start taking tablets I should take t continuously throughout my life. Since I stopped taking it will der be any problems in future. The skin on my neck enlarges and decreases as I gain and lose weight.

Dont worry you were never required treatment for your thyroid that was just subclinical hypothyroidism which need not be treated. I would have never put you on treatment. However if you r married and planning for pregnancy you might require treatmnet for pregnancy period. So check once you r planning for pregnancy else just enjoy your life and dont worry about thyroid.

If your tsh, t3 & t4 levels are all normal, stop taking thyroxine now. However, repeat all 3 after 1 year or when symptoms return. We will decide then.
