Hi. My mother has been diagnosed with reactive depression. She is 45 years old. My father passed away last year and the doctor has said that she is even in the menopause stage. She has been prescribed with 2 anti depressants. May I know whether these medications will become permanent or are safe for short time? and what will be the potential side effects?

Dear, depression is usually treated with a combination of medicines, psychotherapy, exercise and meditation. Depression is manageable with all these steps. I think you should tgry meditation, exercise and psychotherapy. I think two or three counseling sessions and psycho therapy techniques should solve your problem. Let me know if you are willing to undergo counseling sessions and tailor made psycho therapy through mobile. Take care.

Antidepressants are safe medications. They do not cause any harm to mind/brain and are not habit forming. They should be taken for adequate period so that symptoms don't recur.
