Hello, i'm 24 female and will turn 25 in july. I heard that eyesight stops getting worse when you turn 23 or so. But my eyesight is getting worse my left is -2 and right is -5. I'm so worried. It keeps on increasing. I haven't taken eye checkup this year but I know that my eyesight has increased. When it will stop and when do my eye power becomes stable? Can laser work to my eyes? My father had severe myopia and I know genetics is playing a big role. But how much it takes to stabilise my eyesight number? I'm very worried that it is already -5 and it is increasing every time I go for the checkup.

The younger they are when they start becoming short-sighted, generally the faster their vision deteriorates and the more severe it is in adulthood. Short-sightedness usually stops getting worse at around the age of 20. Let's connect over a call so that we can discuss your concern in details and make a suitable treatment plan for you.

Hello. Sorry to hear about your concerns. Myopia is the most common refractory error in the world. Generally most people with childhood myopia have their refraction (power) stabilised in their 20s. But there is no thumb rule for the same and many people continue to progress until their 30s or 40s. Since your power is high in one eye (-5d), you must get your retina thoroughly checked up to avoid any future complications. Also, yes you may undergo laser surgery for spectacle correction, but for that you first need to get done extensive check up of your whole eye to see if you are fit for the surgery or not. Also if your power is unstable (i.e, the change is more than 0.5d in last 1 year), then surgery will not be an option for you. Hope this helps. You can reach me out anytime for further queries. Thank you.
