Hello- an undescended testicle increases the risk of infertility (not being able to have children), testicular cancer, hernias and testicular torsion (twisting). An empty scrotum also can cause significant psychological stress as the boy gets older. For these reasons, early treatment is very important. The majority of cases resolve spontaneously, without any treatment. Medical or surgical correction of the condition is usually successful. About 5% of patients with undescended testicles do not have testicles that can be found at the time of surgery.
