I am going through psychiatric treatment since I lost my dear father two years ago. I am taking two medicines namely depran forte and fluvoxin 100 mg. I don't wish to continue with them since they are costly and addictive also. Please guide me.

They are good antidepressants. Agreed they are costly, but they are not addictive (they don't belong to addiction category of medicines or substances). But your desire to stop them is genuine, you need to titrate the dose slowly down over a period of time which any psychiatrist will be able to help with, for smooth withdrawal. If your neurotransmitters in the mind are stable you may not have recurrence of depression. Good luck.

It is very good that you are looking forward to stopping your dependency on the medicines. Please go ahead with counseling sessions, we all need to, at some or the other time, face many unwanted situations in our life. All you need is to make up your mind and have confidence on yourself. Start with yoga, counseling, some hobby and excercise as early as you can. Let us know if want online sessions.

Dear Anand, When did you last consult your doctor? Please consult her/him to discuss your continuation of these tablets. If you still need them, he can prescribe cheaper and equally effective alternatives to these drugs. They are NOT addictive - addiction means that you go on increasing the dose, your thinking is always about how to get them, you get craving and other physical symptoms on withdrawal nad you don't perform your normal responsibilities.
