After using cipralex 10 mg for almost 5 years, I tapered the medication and came down to cipralex 5 mg. I'm on the current dosage of 5 mg since the past two months. The problem is i'm having terrible withdrawal symptoms and a tough withdrawal phase. I thought to use a higher dosage and have been advised to transit to fluoxetine 20 mg as I was told it is really easy to come out of fluoxetine later.

Withdrawal symptoms usually occur when an ssri antidepressant is suddenly stopped, called the discontinuation syndrome. You can check whether the symptoms you are experiencing match with that. It seems unlikely that you are experiencing withdrawal as you are gradually tapering the dose. More probable explanation is that your anxiety symptoms were effectively controlled on a higher dose and lower dose is not sufficient to take care of them. Advice would be to go back to 10 mg and start with various psychological and behavioral techniques to manage anxiety and then consider tapering gradually. It's true there is less risk of withdrawal with fluoxetine but the risk of relapse of anxiety after stopping it is same as any other antidepressant.
