If this is your first episode, we can definitely consider tapering them. But usually when you are two medications, we only first start by reducing the secondary one. The primary is ideally given for a course of at least 5-6 months in sequential tapering and observing for atleast 2 weeks after tapering. Meanwhile you must start psychotherapy in form of cbt and relaxation to get long term benefits of treatment. Take care.

Dear Lybrate user, as every illness has a course and duration, it is always better to follow regular treatment for the entire duration of the illness. Similarly, anxiety and panic attacks needs to be treated completely so that they don't reoccur on stopping the treatment. To be on the safer side, it is better to continue the treatment for sometime if suitable (the duration of treatment varies as per the individual's severity of symptoms, in your case may be 3 to 6 months. After that you can gradually taper off the doses sequentially in accordance with the symptoms. Regards.

As such you can not withdraw a medicine without your illness is in complete remission. Feeling better is not a marker for abruptly stopping a medicine. You need to discuss with your psychiatrist about your diagnosis, how long a medication should be taken & out of the two medications, which one can be gradually stopped. It's my opinion that usually if you can tolerate dosage reduction of paxidep without any difficulty, you can soon stop nexito also with help & supervision of your treating psychiatrist.
