The situation under which this was prescribed needs to be reviewed with a view to determine if she could do without medicine in near future or she needs some kind of support. May be lower dosage of this medication. May be another medicine. Of may be some behavioral intervention. So the right way is to consult your doctor who had prescribed this .or any other psychiatrist.

It's always better to taper medications under advice of the doctor. If you are better then you should take 5 mg for around a month or so. During this time watch for any recurring symptoms of depression. If your symptoms come back then you will have to increase dose back to 10 mg for some more time and you must visit the psychiatrist immediately. If you maintain well on 5 mg then you can safely stop after 1 month.

The minimum duration of treatment for depression is 9 months. You should continue medication for 4 more months, then ask your doctor for tapering. Your medication will be tapered only if your symptoms are improved. No patient should taper the dose without the advise of the doctor. Please continue medication, along with cognitive behavioral therapy to prevent recurrence of depression. Irregular medication and under dose may leads to recurrence of symptoms so be cautious
