I'm having consistent jaw (tmj) pain. It increases while chewing and I can't open my mouth fully especially after waking up. Are there things I can do at home to cure the pain and the condition? (it started suddenly a month ago and hasn't resolved yet. I took some painkillers on doctor's advice but it did not help)

Donot worry it might be due to erupting wisdom teeth at the back of your mouth. Its features includes inability to open the mouth after a long rest and pain infront of the ear. This can be resolved if you approach to a dentist as soon as possible. Until then use acene Mr. Tablets thrice a day. To know more about the problem and treatment options do consult in private chat.

Tmj pain is a complex disorder we have to evaluate by radiology. Just do some muscle deprogram excercise like opening jaw widely against restricting the jaw opening by your hand. Do it for 10 times twice daily along with massege in tmj area with a warm cloth. Take mayospaz forte tablet twice daily if you have severe pain. The permanent simplyfied treatment for tmj pain is occlusal splint. That has to decide upon clinical and xray exa mination.

Hi lybrate-user, can you see any cavity at the end of your jaws? If not then problem can be related to your muscles. Sometimes we all tend to grind or clench our teeth at night in deep sleep. That can be the reason you are feeling pain when you get up in the morning. In this case you have to start doing facial exercises. First exercise can be open and close your jaws 20 times. You have to repeat this exercise three times a day. Second exercise is to move your lower jaw side by side 20 counts and 3 times a day. Another thing that you have to do is take hot water and put salt into it, fill that water in your mouth make balloons of your cheek and let this hot water be inside your mouth for 20 seconds and then spit the water out. This you have to do 2 to 3 times in a day. Hope this was helpful. Thank you very much.
