I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism a month back. As doctor prescribed I am taking inderal 20 and neo mercazole 20. Starting 2 weeks were normal. But suddenly I started getting skin allergy (urticaria). Is it because of neo marcazole? Because I have kept close watch on my food intake which is normal since starting and this skin allergy is still there but very less.

Dear lybrate-user, if your skin rash (urticaria) is because of neomercazole, it will continue to occur with the same severity when you continue the tablet. Since you feel it is much less spontaneously, it may not be related to the tablet. You may have some other allergy (food items like mushroom, egg, fish) try and see if it goes away fully when you avoid offending food items. If the problem persists or recurs take an online appointment and consult with all details.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Allergic reactions can happen to any medication. Usually these happen right in the beginning. Sometimes there can be a late reaction also. Since you have not mentioned details about T3, T4 & TSH levels, it is difficult to know the severity of the condition being treated. Because Neomercazole happens to be the only treatment for that condition. Some times taking anti histaminics may help in controlling allergic reactions. If the reactions are severe you may have to stop the drug. Then other treatment options will have to be looked at. Thanks.
