Hello doctors, I just got my partially erupted wisdom teeth removed and I have been living with severe pain since 5 days. Also, my jaw doesn't open up to how it used to be and is cracking when I try to open my mouth. I am really scared about my jaw and mouth. I feel something bad must have been done to it. By the way the maxillofacial surgeon pulled out my teeth and I didn't receive any stitches. Please advice what is happening to my jaw and my mouth overall.

This condition occurs because of lock jaw caused by muscle injury or might happen because of cheek biting by you under the effect of anaesthesia. In any case it is reversible n you need to apply some medication locally n take muscle relaxants prescribed by your doctor you will be fine.

Wait for 5 more days with precautions like frequent warm saline rinses, antibiotics and strong painkillers like tapentadol. If symptoms improved well and good otherwise visit your dentist to inspect what is going on?

It usually settles by this time but diabetics may take little longer.

The severe pain could be due to a condition called dry socket that occurs due to dislodgement of the clot that promotes healing of the extraction socket (could occur due to intake of hot food post extraction within 24 hrs, vigorous spitting or rinsing, sneezing or coughing with force etc). The pain during mouth opening could occur due to stiffness in the muscle due to a long procedure or the muscle could be sore post anaesthesia. Sometimes when the tooth is stuck beneath a lot of bone, the extraction site could hurt for a few days. I would suggest not to worry excessively and see your dental surgeon once so that he/she can help you out figuring the cause of pain.
