Norethisterone contains the hormone progesterone. Norethisterone is safe for most women to use on an occasional basis. It should not, however, be taken regularly. It is also not a contraceptive and as such should not be used to prevent pregnancy.
Norethisterone and ethinyl oestradiol combination pills are contraceptive pills, but they are also used in patients who have irregular periods or have excessive bleeding.
It's use regularizes periods and in patients who have excessive bleeding it's use controls bleeding.
