I am 41 years old male. My reports shows T3 261.97 T4 16.97 TSH 0.010 My gamma imaging scan shows Graves diseases. I am advice Neo-Mercazole 10 mg 3 tab daily and Ciplar-LA 40 1 tab daily for first 2 months. Is it curable from these medicines or need radioiodine therapy or surgery?

Mr. lybrate-user Kumar, Thanks for the query. I get a feeling that I have answered the same earlier. Please understand problems with thyroid gland are related to either hormone (thyroxine) excess - hyperthyroidism & Graves disease or less thyroxine -Hypothyroidism. Since these are hormone related there is no complete cure. If hypothyroidism is there, then hormone needs to be supplemented daily for lifetime. If excess is there as in Grave's then one has to curb the gland activity with anti thyroid drugs, which need to be taken for at least 12 to 18 months or longer. Then if thyroid function most often returns to normal. But in majority of cases the excess activity does come back after a gap of few months. Then further treatment has to be looked at. Unfortunately there is no permanent cure. Thanks.
