Hi Doctor, today I had removed my wisdom teeth left lower jaw. It was a hospital and they involve students for practising. The student had put stitches after removal. My parents have earlier removed teeth but not have done stitches. 1. Is it common to put the stitch or could it have been avoided? 2. They asked me to come after 5 days to remove stitch. Are the remove type of stitch still followed or stitches that dissolve by itself are used? Kindly provide your suggestions as I doubt if this has been not handled well due to less experience. Should I consult experienced doctors for removal of the stitch? Thanks!

Do not worry. The wisdom tooth removed must be deep seated and not straight. So stitches are placed. It happens in wisdom tooth removals if they are not straight or deep seated .there are dissolvable stitch and stitches which do not get dissolved .we need to cut them in the 7th day and not 5 days .kindly visit your dentist for followups. Till it does not get healed completely.

I think a right job has been done n don't think students under direct supervision of their teachers will do a wrong job or teachers would let them do so don't bother

It is common to take stitch. You should consult the same doctor for removal as taking stitch was more difficult.

Sutures are good ,they help in healing fast. Resorable sutures not personally recommended.
