Hi Doctor, Due to irregular periods and weight gain I went for thyroid test, t3 and t4 are normal and tsh is 5.12 when I go to doctor they said not to use tablets as it is slightly high. But my periods are irregular. Please suggest me.

Hello, Thanks for the query. TSH 5.12 mU/l is marginally high, classified as subclinical hypothyroidism. No treatment is advocated at this level. However, if a person has presence of troublesome symptoms of hypothyroidism then sometimes, treatment is given. Please get Anti TPO antibodies tested, as some times due to increase in these antibodies, there may be hypothyroidism developing. In that case TSH may not be very high. Thanks.
