It is a antibiotic but as you said you are suffering from sore throat and we suffer sore throat in our life time many a times ,so how many you will take medications without doctors advice. Right now once in a while it is acceptable.

Do not take antibiotics without consulting Dr. otherwise you will develop Antibiotic resistance .Do warm saline gargles nd simply take pain killer.
