Rice or Roti does not increase weight. Excessive calories intake will increase weight. If your body needs two rotis, then eating two rotis will not impact but if you have 5 rotis then your weight will increase. Similarly if your body needs just two cups of rice but if you have 6 cups then your weight will increase. Bottomline is that you have to balance your calorie intake. Taking a simple diet of Rice/Roti + Dal does not increase weight. The body weight goes up due to intake of high calorie fried foods, sweets, colas, pakoras etc. You can use 'Myfitnesspal' to monitor your calories.
