I am 28 years old am type 2 diabetes. I had succeeded in controlling my blood sugar within 3 months after detecting it. My present blood sugar is PP 117 & fasting 98. Now my wife 2 months pregnant after 5 months marriage and My wife has no diabetes. So please suggest me how to reduce the risk for my child for my type 2 diabetes.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Fortunately T2 DM is a preventable condition, by adapting a healthy lifestyle. Which that person (who is likely to be affected) should maintain a normal weight, avoid central obesity, reduce intake of sweets, junk foods, pastries, foods made from maida. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Exercise regularly and maintain normal weight. Thanks.

The risk for the child cannot be reduced. In general with life style modification you can prevent the onset of disease at earlier age.
