For strengthening you should see a physiotherapy doctor nearby for about 7-10 days for your knee and hip muscles Edema Control: Cryotherapy. Strengthening: Entire lower extremity should be strengthened. Special attention should be paid to Quads, Hamstrings for the ability to help stabilize knee in lieu of an intact ACL and Hip abductors to maintain proper alignment of lower extremity. Closed Chain exercises are used for Quadriceps strengthening. Open Chain exercises that may cause excessive anterior translation of the tibia on the femur should be avoided. Joint ROM/ Muscle Stretching Proprioception Training Endurance Training Electrical Stimulation- To strengthen the VMO and to prevent development of patellofemoral dysfunction. ROM- Active and Passive of knee Stretching- Quads, Hamstring and ITB Balance Training- incorporating entire Lower extremity. Gait Training- Progressing from possible assistive device to walking, ascending and descending stairs and finally Jogging/ Running. Bracing- Derotational knee brace. Used during athletic activities. Frequency & Duration Outpatient Care: 2-3x/week for 2-3 months as indicated by patient?s status and progression.
