Few months ago I visited a doctor and had my blood tested, he said my iron levels were low and I was on tablets for about 3 months, its been about 6 months since the visit and I still feel fatigued a lot of the time and have palpations which are very annoying, I'm 18, I use to also drink a lot of tea but have stopped recently, does that have anything to do with my low iron levels.

You wil have to provide details about the iron values and we need to see what tests have you undergone. Persistent fatigue and palpitations could also point out to a thyroid, adrenal disorder, vitamin b12 deficiency etc. Its also possible that the tablets may not have been optimally absorbed by your body due to a underlying deficiency or the particular composition of the tablet, so in that case either the tablets can be changed or you may also require injections, but for that first you need to recheck the values to know where it stands after taking the treatment. Please consider visiting your doctor again or any qualified medical specialist as every condition requires a systematic followup as well and you have not done so. I think that should be sufficient at this juncture. vitamin b1 deficiency

Dear lybrate-user, Along with medicine you have to take care of your diet also. Take food rich in iron like pomegranate, guava, banana, sprouts etc.

Generally when you start taking iron tablets, serum iron gets corrected within 3 months. If the cause is not corrected then it may Natalie longer or even can not be corrected. See what is the cause of iron deficiency in your case? Taking lot of tea causes poor iron absorption but since you left that, there should be improvement!
