How can I reduce my weight. I gained a lot of weight because of side effects of steroids which I used to intake for arthritis. Now my arthritis level is normal but still I have pain in my hands n legs and also my weight is still increasing day by day. Wat do I do?

Dear Mr. lybrate-user, yes steroids can have very serious side effects. Unfortunately it is also a necessary medicine in many disorders. You have not mentioned for which type of arthritis you have been using steroids. I hope you are not taking steroids as on the counter medicines, which some unverified pharmacy shops do. It can also cause bone resorption and resulting in pain weakness of bones. If you are a diabetic, your sugar levels also get high with steroids. As far as your weight is concerned, you can follow the same measures to lose weight as advice for those not on steroids, like healthy diet, more proteins and vegetables than carbohydrates. And regular exercise, even 20 mts of walking every day to begin with. Take calcium and also anti gastritis medications if you have to take steroids.
