Foot Drop

To avoid dragging the toes, people with foot drop may lift their kneehigher than normal. Or they may swing their leg in a wide arc.

Foot drop can happen to one foot or both feet at the same time. It can strike at any age.In general, foot drop stems fromweakness or paralysis of the muscles that lift the foot. It can have many different causes. Treatments for foot drop vary according to the cause. Most common causes and treatments for foot drop.

What causes foot drop?

  • Foot drop is a symptom of an underlying problem, rather than a disease itself. It can be temporary or permanent. Causes of foot drop include:
  • Nerve injury
  • Brain or spinal disorders
  • Muscle disorders

Here's some more detail on these causes:

Nerve injury. Most commonly, foot drop is caused by an injury to the peroneal nerve. The peroneal nerve is a branch of the sciatic nerve that wraps from the back of the knee to the front of the shin. Because it sits very close to the surface, it may be damaged easily.

An injury to the peroneal nerve may also be associated with pain or numbness along the shin or the top of the foot.

Some common ways the peroneal nerve is damaged or compressed include:

How do doctors treat foot drop?

Treatment for foot drop will depend on the cause. Early treatment may improve chances of recovery.

Treatments may include:

  • Lightweight braces
  • Shoe inserts (orthotics)
  • Physical therapy
  • Surgery
  • Lightweight braces are the most common treatment. They're used to support the leg.
  • Physical therapy is used to strengthen foot and leg muscles. It may improve a person's ability to walk. In some cases, electronic devices that stimulate the leg nerves during walking may be appropriate.
  • Surgery may be recommended to try to repair or decompress a damaged nerve. In cases where foot drop is permanent, surgery to fuse the foot and ankle joint or to transfer tendons from stronger muscles may help improve gait and stability

Foot drop, sometimes called" drop foot" is the inability to lift the front part of the foot. This causes the toes to drag along the ground while walking. To avoid dragging the toes, people with foot drop may lift their kneehigher than normal. Why Anti Mullerian Hormone (AMH) Test Is Important Before IVF?

Why Anti Mullerian Hormone (AMH) Test Is Important Before IVF?

Many couples are reaching IVF clinics due to infertility problems. IVF is a very useful process for those couples who are unable to conceive. A few tests will be done on both male and female, and then the treatment for infertility will start. Many people reach out to the doctor with a low AMH count. What actually is AMH count and how does it affect IVF treatment? Continue reading to know more about AMH:

What is an AMH test?
In the ovarian follicles, cells produce a protein called AMH or Anti Mullerian Hormone. AMH levels can be classified as below:

  • Very Low AMH levels means 0.5 ng/ml or below. This condition indicates severe fertility concerns and very low ovarian reserve.
  • Low AMH levels means 1.0 ng/ml to 1.5 ng/ml. This condition indicates that the ovarian reserve is low, but that chances of getting pregnant are still good.
  • Normal AMH levels mean 1.5 ng/ml to 4.0 ng/ml. This condition indicates a good ovarian reserve and very good chance of responding to IVF or other fertility treatments.

Many people have a misconception that low or very low levels of AMH do not indicate that the IVF treatment is suitable for the woman. Some women may have a low quantity of eggs due to low AMH levels, but the quality of the egg can be good and hence the chances of pregnancy are good.

Why is an AMH test important for IVF treatment?

  • One of the most reliable tests done for confirming if the woman will have a successful pregnancy is the AMH test. This test can be done at any time of the month irrespective of the monthly cycle and the lifestyle of the woman. The exact fertility health can be analyzed with the help of this test.
  • Blood samples are taken and tested for AMH levels. This is not included in your normal blood test reports and hence you need to ask the doctor if you want to know the AMH levels. A combination of Antral follicle count test with AMH tests will give you the best results.

Why do AMH levels drop?
There are many factors that are responsible for the AMH levels to drop and one of them is aging. Other factors include hormonal imbalance, low blood circulation to the ovaries, unhealthy food choices, stress, autoimmune diseases, genetic factors and your lifestyle.
One single test of AMH levels will not give you the exact results. You need to get the test done a few times to know the exact values. Though your birth control pills may not affect the AMH levels, you can stop them for a few months and then get the test done. Talk to the doctor regarding the other medications you take and other fertility drugs you have used in the past or presently. This helps the doctor to give you the right advice. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Anti Dandruff - Paste

Itchy scalps with white flakes on the shoulders are a common sight. It apparently seems harmless but can be quite annoying not to mention embarrassing!

  • A number of reasons including stress, an oily scalp, sickness or even season change could be responsible for it. Sometimes, it is simply the left over new shampoo that you tried the other day. Doctors believe that dandruff is caused by Seborrheic Dermatitis, a skin condition whose cause is still not known. The skin glands usually produce a lubricant called sebum for waterproofing and lubricating the scalp. In some, this gives rise to a fungal growth which finally causes skin scaling. Some doctors feel it is related to psoriasis.
  • Whatever be the reason, anti-dandruff shampoos come by the dozen but hardly any of them have the answer to the problem. The itchy flakes go away only to return after some time. Topical treatments often contain steroid which temporarily cure the condition but tend to affect the skin.
  • Herbal remedies are preferably the safest since they are made of natural ingredients like neem leaves, lemon oil, fenugreek extracts, tea tree oil and curd.
  • Make a paste of all above herbs and oil, apply onto scalp leave for 30 minutes then wash with plain water. you we get dandruff free hair in just few applications.
