I have teeth with small parts of white part on it broken but I never felt any sensitiveness or pain. Today I went to doctor before tooth impression he shaped my tooth which removes all white part and my teeth almost reduces in size and also feeling sensitiveness now. My doubt is tooth size is reduced and feeling pain now which I never felt before. Is there any chance to feel the same senstivity in future after placing my cap or incase of cap failure.

Dear Lybrate user, In order to prepare the tooth for receiving cap, the outer protective layer of the the tooth which is the enamel (white part) gets removed while shaping the tooth. Now the dentin (slightly yellowish) layer which is prone to sensitivity is exposed. This is causing sensitivity in your shaped tooth. Do not worry, you may ask your dentist for a temporary cap which will cover the shaped tooth and protect it, to prevent sensitivity till you get the final cap. Ideally, your tooth should not be sensitive after the placement of the cap.

Hello Mr. lybrate-user, yes tooth becomes sensitive after the reduction of crown portion, but do'nt worry after the crown is placed this sensitivity will subside and there is very less chance of sensitivity in future. Also try to clean and brush properly around the margins of crown as their are chances of food accumulation and subsequently infection.
