The Rabies infection is caused when the secretions of animal are passed on to human being through open wound under the skin or into blood by injury like a bite. The animal here is suspected when animal which is confirmed with rabies, or animal is unwell, dies or disappears within 10 days or animal in streets not possible to trace bites or passes on secretions into open skin. During any doubt it is better to consult local doctor giving proper details. In this case just sniffing, touching pant even by any animal is not likely to transmit rabies.
