I am a 23 year old male. I have pain from lower waist to the left leg. This is what my mri report says- "1. Mild to moderate posterior central and left paracentral disc extrusion at l4 l5 level, indenting thecal sac, attenuating lateral recess, causing compression over left l5 traversing nerve root. 2. Mild diffuse disc bulge with posterocentral disc protrusion at l5-s1 level, indenting thecal sac, attenuating lateral recess with no obvious nerve root compression. According to the doctor, surgery is the only option. Is surgery my only option? What kind of doctor should I consult?

Dear Lybrate user from the above mentioned clinical findings of in your mri report says. Some thing moderately serious about your problem. May be you lost some muscle strength and power. Your pain is also increased. So if you're not taking physio therapy. Then try it. Or if already taken it but pain and other functions are still continue. You have necessary to go for surgery. But choosing the right doctor is as your choice. However after surgery you must be taken physical therapy for good improvement and follow some precautions to prevent re-occur / repeat.
