Hi Mr. lybrate-user, kindly understand the basic structure of teeth and gums so that you will be having a better understanding of the problem, the treatment and the future precautions that you should take to avoid problem in the future. Tooth has two parts 1.the part of the teeth that that you can see from the outside is called as crown of the teeth. And 2. The part of the tooth that is present beneath the gums is called as root of the teeth. Your teeth are surrounded by pinkish gums that encircles all the teeth in a collar like fashion as you can see from the outside. Deep within the gums are present the bone of the teeth. It is this bone that holds your teeth inside a socket with the help of a ligament as like the knee bones are joined. If you dint pay good attention to brushing and keeping the mouth clean, the food particle accumulation around your teeth and gums will start irritating the gums. The bacteria in those food particles will release some harmful toxins that it will destroy your gums and affect your bones. This will result in in destruction of the bone inside your gums. As more and more destruction happens, there is loss of bone around the root part of the teeth. your teeth are weakened due to loss of bone support. Finally when more amount of bone is lost your teeth there comes a point where your teeth starts to shake and on further destruction your teeth tends to fall off. Flap surgery mainly involves opening your gums and cleaning those food particles that have reached your bone and also the infected tissue that is present near the teeth and the bone. Your dentist will put a cut, open your gums clean out all food debris, s sometimes depending upon the level of bone loss; that is if more amount of bone is lost he may also put some bone material to help the bone grow in order to strengthen the teeth. Finally the gums are placed in their original position and stitches or sutures or placed. Treatment success depends not only on the successful procedure carried out by your dentist but also strict maintenance of oral hygiene by you. Brush your teeth twice daily using circular strokes. More specifically don't forget to brush at the night. *maintaining the area free without any food particle accumulation is the nature and the most important thing that you can do to ensure the success of the procedure* gargle out as soon as you eat something. Gently massage your gums, with the help of table salt. Kindly don't brush using salt on your gums rather take some table salt touch with water using your fore finger and thumb ;gently apply a soft pressure on your gums around the teeth and relieve the pressure. This is how you should do the massage on the gums to maintain it hale and healthy.
