Dear lybrateuser, - It is good that you have decided to quit smoking, follow some tips to give it up completely: - decide a fixed date on which you will quit completely, you cannot reduce it & gradually quit - remove all the articles associate with it like cigarettes, lighter, ashtray from your home or from wherever you keep it so that you are unable to reach them when the urge is there - inform your friends about your decision so that they don't coax you to have one especially in a social gathering - divert & keep your mind busy with your work or studies or do regular exercise or listen to music or go for a walk or be in a no smoking place when you know that the urge will be there - if still urge is strong then take nicotine gum to overcome it, follow the instructions as given on the pack - also you can take help of a doctor or an NGO or a deaddiction centre( is more useful as there are others who can support & help you to overcome your problem) - you have to develop a strong willpower & determination to quit.

This is a very good initiative and resolution you're taking. If you are really committed then quitting is not difficult. You need to start by reducing the no of cigarettes you're taking per day. In place you should take gums like nicotex. Slowly reduce the no of cigarettes to alternate days and then stop altogether. But you need to follow it strongly and not succum to the urge.
