About Graniset 1Mg Tablet

Graniset 1Mg Tablet is used as the prophylaxis and treatment of chemotherapy-related emesis; may be prescribed for patients who are refractory to or have severe adverse reactions to standard antiemetic therapy.

This medicine may be prescribed for young patients (ie, <45 years of age who are more likely to develop extrapyramidal reactions to high-dose metoclopramide) who are to receive highly emetogenic chemotherapeutic agents.

Graniset 1Mg Tablet should not be prescribed for chemotherapeutic agents with a low emetogenic potential (eg, bleomycin, busulfan, cyclophosphamide <1000 mg, etoposide, 5-fluorouracil, vinblastine, vincristine).

Graniset 1Mg Tablet, a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, is used for preventing vomiting and nausea caused by cancer chemotherapy. It works by blocking serotonin in the body that can cause vomiting.

Do not use Graniset 1Mg Tablet if you are allergic to it or if you are taking apomorphine. Some medical conditions that may interfere with the action of this medicine are heart problems, blood electrolyte problems, an abnormal electrocardiogram and stomach or bowel problems.

Common side effects of this medicine are anxiety, constipation, trouble sleeping, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting and weakness. Some serious side effects include severe allergic reactions, fast or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, fainting, fever, chills, stomach pain or swelling, sore throat, severe or persistent skin irritation and unusual muscle movement.

This drug is taken orally before 24 hours of a surgery or chemotherapy. It can also be taken into a vein as directed by your doctor, usually 30 minutes before cancer chemotherapy or surgery. The drug may be directly administered into a vein in 30 seconds, or it may be mixed with IV fluid and administered into a vein in 5 minutes.

This drug will be administered on days when you receive chemotherapy to reduce nausea and vomiting. If outpatient chemotherapy, you may be given oral medication to take after return home; take as directed.

You may experience drowsiness; use caution when driving. For persistent acute headache request analgesic from prescriber. Frequent mouth care, chewing gum, or sucking on lozenges may relieve persistent nausea. Report unrelieved headache, fever, diarrhea, or constipation.

      The effects generally last no more than 24 hours maximum.

      This medicine commonly controls emesis within 1-3 minutes of administration.

    Graniset 1Mg Tablet is an antiemetic agent working as a selective antagonist of 5-HT3 serotonin receptors centrally as well as peripherally. Inhibition of 5-HT3 receptors directly as well as indirectly inhibits the visceral stimulation of the vomiting center in turn.
