Staph infections are a type of bacterial infection caused by the Staphylococcus bacteria. A cut in the skin can cause this infection, and the symptoms can range from a simple boil to a severe antibiotic resistant infection, depending on how deeply the bacteria penetrates and how quickly it does so. Antibiotics that are used to treat it are increasingly turning resistant, so in some cases surgery could also be required.
