Oppositional Defiant Disorder usually results from trauma, abuse, strict disciplining at home or school and manifests itself in an aggressive or defiant behavioral pattern in children. It is marked by short temper, outbursts, tendency to blame others and pick up a fight, and often developing a spiteful attitude towards others, especially people in authority. Counseling of both parents and the child is essential to alleviate and identify the causes of Oppositional Defiant Disorder. If left untreated, it may lead to greater psychological repercussions in the child’s adult life.
