Hives can be described as swollen, red and itchy bumps that emerge on any body part, including the face, ears, neck or tongue. This condition can be caused by factors, such as pet dander, increased exposure to the sun, bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, allergic reactions to certain foods and insect stings, or exposure to certain poisonous plants. A person affected by hives should remain in a cool room.
