Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia is a hereditary disorder of adrenal gland. Enzymes in the adrenal gland are important for the formation of hormones. A person suffering from this condition, lacks these enzymes .Also, more androgen is produced which results in the early appearance of male features. The symptoms vary from person to person, on the basis of the age factor. Vomiting, dehydration and abnormal heart rhythm are observed in newborn babies. Whereas during puberty, excessive hair growth, abnormal menstrual cycle and enlargement of clitoris are some of the symptoms seen in a girl. And, in a boy deepening of voice, well developed muscles and enlarged penis can be observed.
HOW IS CONGENITAL ADRENAL HYPERPLASIA DIAGNOSED?
At times, no symptoms are observed in the patient and no treatment is required.
