Bulging eyes or exophthalmos is a condition associated with bulging or protruding eyeballs. A number of causes can account for bulging eyeballs including graves disease, leukemia, hyperthyroidism and histiocytosis. An optometrist treats bulging eyes by prescribing medications to correct the levels of thyroid hormones or by using corrective surgery.
