What is Hunter syndrome?

Hunter syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that occurs when an enzyme your body needs is either missing or malfunctioning. It is an inherited condition.

Symptoms of Hunter syndrome-

  • Stunted growth, usually after age 4 or 5
  • Sleep apnea
  • Joint stiffness
  • Diarrhea
  • Large head
  • Runny nose
  • Colds
  • An enlarged abdomen
  • Frequent ear infections

  • Breathing problems while sleeping

Causes of Hunter syndrome-

It occurs when an enzyme that’s needed to break down complex sugars called glycosaminoglycans is missing or malfunctioning.
